It was not long after we moved here that I realized that mannequins are quite popular in Europe. (Check out the original post here.) Most historical museums that we have been to have mannequins, so seeing a few dummies while touring Fort Hackenburg was not a surprise. What was a bit unusual though, was the large number of mannequins that were sporting facial hair.
I haven’t noticed that mustaches are that popular in Europe (with the horrible exception of Mustache March.)
Even the squadron photographs on display did not have a large number of mustache-wearing service members.
Mustaches aside, the museum at Fort Hackenburg did have an impressive number of uniforms and other artifacts on display.
Only a few mannequins had beards. (I know this is a horrible photograph but I had to include the bearded guy.)
This Algerian had some unique facial hair.
Our tour guide revealed the secret near the end of the tour. Eagle-eyed readers might be able to solve the mystery…
