When I first heard about The Commission Project last year I was intrigued – but I didn’t think I had any photo that was worthy of being commissioned. (I learned of the project either from Design Mom or from Oh Happy Day. The artist, Paul Ferney, is the husband of the Oh Happy Day blogger, and the BIL of Design Mom. Incidentally, I started reading Design Mom because she moved to Normandy, France about the same time that we were gearing up to move to Germany.)
Then last Spring when we went to the Algarve (Portugal) I snapped this photo and made a mental note: Keep my eyes open for The Commission Project.
Sure enough, the project was announced in September and I quickly submitted my photo. It seemed like a long few months, but at the beginning of December I was thrilled to receive this in the mail:
I love it! The scene is captured so beautifully. Even though they are tiny, it is clear to me that those three people in the bottom right corner are Jeremy, Andrew and Thomas. The painting is little – 5×7″ – which means no matter where we live I should have no problem finding a place to display it.
Thanks, Paul Ferney, for capturing a wonderful memory in such a beautiful way.
Except for painting this picture, I have no affiliation with Paul Ferney. I can’t say if there will be another Commission Project in 2014, but last year it was announced at the end of August. Check out the blog links above – I’m sure it will be posted by any or all of them.
